DH and I have driven to southern Maine in 9 hrs by trading off. I think we made it to Maine border before needing gas. I never really thought about where we got gas before, but I know we wanted to get to hotel first, then get gas the next day.

You can do that. The ONLY issue might be harassment from locals, or an educational conversation with a LEO.

Honestly, harassment from locals is incredibly unlikely, especially as the summer progresses. There will be tourists, the state needs income, and most confrontational locals in Maine are libertarians.

Especially as that article quotes CDC officials and says "CDC officials say people in quarantine can go for a walk, but they must wear a face mask and stay six feet apart or more from others. But they do recommend people in quarantine avoid going for walks along heavily traveled trails and be ready to keep their distance from others during chance encounters." Very useful!
