please get your factors straight. It's easy to check. Midd's applications did not decline, they increased by 9%. In fact, Midd had the largest applicant group in its history for this year's class.

Anonymous wrote:New here but interested in SLACs. What exactly is Colby doing on admissions that people are calling it out for?

Is it? Based on what? My kid toured both and liked both, but Midd rose to the top and was his ED choice. Midd's programs in his areas of interest, alum network in his field of interest, gorgeous location, skiing, nature, the cute walkable little town, the yummy food, the investments in its campus, including amazing new dorm, performing arts venue, athletics.... all of this made Midd more desirable than Colby.
What exactly do you think makes Colby more desirable than Midd?
I’m on your side but this is pretty poor reasoning. Colby has DavisConnects and a strong alumni backing, a new dorm, new performing arts venue, new art studios and centers in their town, pretty much the best D3 athletic center in the country, and soon a new science complex and innovation center. They seem pretty even, if anything.
You think my kid's reasoning is poor, lol? Well he's happy. Also Midd has a stronger reputation. Sorry, but it just does. Colby isn't helping itself with its admission games and lack of candor.
The points you brought up don’t make sense when everything you brought up is also relevant to Colby and some things are actually better at Colby than Middlebury. So yes, your reasoning is shit. Get over it and realize that you could’ve made a better defense.

It’s just the Northeastern strategy that Middlebury has kept around longer than needed because of their poor financial situation. They want to maximize the amount of families they’re squeezing tuition out of.
here's the Middlebury hater just making up weird claims that make no sense.
DP. They aren’t making up anything. It’s the same concept - have kids start in the second semester, when more beds and space are available on campus. That way, they can greatly increase the amount of households paying the school tuition. Northeastern uses this strategy to fulfill their goal of rapidly climbing in prominence. It’s obvious Middlebury keeps “Feb” around because they are in some sort of trouble.

It's been happening for decades, so catch up.
Midd's finances are far from poor.
Middlebury College is addressing a projected $14.1 million budget deficit by cutting over $10 million from its annual budget through measures including reducing retirement matches, hiring freezes, and closing the Middlebury Institute of International Studies campus in California by 2027. The crisis, largely stemming from low enrollment at the MIIS campus, has led to staff reductions and protests by faculty, students, and staff.
That seems quite poor to me.
