I thought it would feel extremely dated but I'm surprised how much I like it. Sure, some things are just silly now but mostly it's enjoyable and it's kind of fascinating as a very specific fantasy of high minded politics in an era very different from the one we now live in. I highly recommend giving it a try. I originally planned to just rewatch the first season but I'm not on season 3 and just slowly working my way through when I have time to watch a show on my own. I really look forward to it.
I tried rewatching Buffy a few years ago and it just didn't do it for me. I think the difference is that I was a teen when it was originally on and it just hits different, I can't get into it.
Have you ever seen the show Battlestar Galactica? Not the original one from the 70s/80s but the remake that came out in the 00s. I highly recommend that one. The special effects are kind of cheesy (they weren't even that great the first time, it was a relatively low budget sci fi show) but the writing is really good and I think it's especially topical now in light of political upheaval and the AI development going on now. Actually, thinking about it makes me want to watch it again...
Yes! BSG was so good and likely would resonate today extra hard. I generally don't like scifi but the characters were interesting and it wasn't just about space tricks. Lots of interpersonal development and big questions about tech and its role in society.
