U13 boys game at Rush for the Cup - on a break away just minutes after the kick off, a center back cynically trips a striker from behind just outside the box to stop 1v1 and the ref shows straight red. I see this foul quite a bit at the youth games, but rarely a red card is shown for a denial of clear goal scoring opportunity. The free kick was missed, btw.

Some interesting parent attire. Apparently coming from the pool?

I'm a referee and I saw two of the worst referees I've ever seen in my life at OBGC. One was doing an 06 game and one was doing an 07 game. Just terrible. But I saw some excellent referees as well.

Ha! I bet that was the ref at my son's 06 game! Terrible reffing...opponent playing super dirty...players throwing punches after the game, etc.

This is the positive thread ????

We had really good ones in the 08 age group. They prevented many games from getting overly heated. Nipped things in the bud.

U13 ….great to see the kids on the big field. Coach gave pretty much equal playing time and made lots of adjustments to try out positions instead of preconceived notion/positions as in previous years. The kids had a blast!

So good to see my teen son's teammates (and Coach and parents) not go low with so many ill-behaved opponents and parents of opposing teams. They took the foul, and kept their head in the game. They didn't get rattled. They played with class and sportsmanship and let those dirty opponents lose composure, start melting down, take their heads out of the game and fold into themselves, come apart. It's a good part of the reason they ended up winning the tournament!

This is on the girls side. When two teams have a high speed of play and technical abilities the game is less physical and fun to watch. It’s not a rugby contest.

Coach finally realized parents hated Labor Day tournaments and didn't register for one this year- does that count?

What went right at this weekend's tournaments? There have been plenty of comments/threads on the negative aspects. Let's hear some positives. What team or club or impressed you (including your kid's, if that's the case)? Which teams met high expectations or exceeded lower ones? Who played a style you liked? Amongst three local tournaments, there had to have been lots of good soccer played.
