And telling women - many without vast amounts of discretionary income - that this is an “essential item” is just flat out misinformation. There are tons of studies the AAP has done on the Newton mattress. There is zero data to support any of the claims they say. Is it breathable? Yes. Has it been proven to reduce SIDS? Nope, babies have (sadly) died of SIDS while sleeping on the Newton.
These companies drive their bottom line on fear, not science. And they prey on vulnerable women who hear “breathable mattress - makes sense to me!” - what you’re not hearing is how many chemicals they have to put in that product to make it so, how the washing guidelines for that mattress make it more perceptible to bacteria, etc. If you have discretionary income to spend on it then go ahead, it’s a choice. But this is NOT an essential item based on any amount of science. Period.
Ladies, please stop spreading misinformation based on the latest company your fave influencer is sponsored by.
Fair enough. But I thought the Newton was low-emissive chemicals and washable. Are there any mattresses out there you can wash and not worry about bacteria or mold growing?
