Where do you live? I would do a playground that has a covered pavilion.

This, no need to overdo it. We went to a party like this the summer between K and 1st (pre-covid) and it was great.

+1! We went to one similar this past summer. There wasn't even a playground, but there were cicadas... so plenty to keep the kids busy!

Something I have learned though is that if you're thinking of a DPR park or a site in Rock Creek Park, check on bathroom availability. DPR rec center may be right next to a park but closed on Sundays. And some sites you can reserve in RCP look great until you realize bathroom requires a drive.

Burke lake park on a weekend. Rent the ice cream parlor pavilion and splash out for tickets on the carousel and mini train which are right next to it.

Alternately reserve a campsite where you can have a campfire and roast weenies and s’mores, paint seasonal gourds, etc. (I don’t know if you can actually have a campfire but they do have campfire programs on Saturdays)

Green Meadows petting farm in Urbana is fun and they set up tents for birthday parties

Cabin John park and you can ride the train and reserve an outdoor pavillion.

Location?
Sandy springs adventure park has a monkey climbing structure. The easy ropes can also be okay for 6 year olds but that’s sort of hit or miss.
Audubon society at woods end in Chevy chase did outdoor parties but not sure with covid. MoCo parks also did parties st the nature centers historically did as well.

That sounds awful. If I showed up to a party with my 6 year old and this was happening we would turn right around.

Backyard races -- have enough kid-sized cardboard boxes for them to decorate (or have them mostly pre-decorated and the kids add stuff), have a couple of running races, "sit" in the cars to watch a car cartoon, and serve movie snacks (individual bags of popcorn, twizzlers, cupcakes).

Any ideas for an outdoor, as covid safe as possible, birthday party location for a 6 year old boy for the end of October? We’d love to be able to invite his new K class and that would be too many kids to safely do something in our backyard.. Ideally I would love to find a nature center that would show some animals or host at a park or playground (or a farm??) or something? Although it would be great to have some kind of “activity.” Trying to keep this simple and low stress, but struggling to come up with any good ideas…
