8th and 10th grader seemed happy. 10th grader sat alone at lunch but didn't complain about it.

I take it that’s not typical

I’ve already become that mom and emailed the teacher.

I’d give him a week or two to transition— it’s a big change from his K experience and it’s a longer day. I don’t think that’s typical for him to be so down the first day, so I’d reach out to the school counselor by the end of next week if things haven’t improved.

I totally agree to make sure the counselor has their eyes so you can get him in a better place about school. No this is not typical, I’m so sorry he had such a bad day. The lunch thing is really throwing me. Even with outdoor lunch they have the kids in fifth grade sitting in a circle next to each other. indoor, especially in first grade they typically have to sit all the same tables together. Have a teacher keep an eye on that tomorrow to see what the deal was.

My first grader had a good day. The AM bus was on time, he enjoyed class and recess, and had a great time at aftercare.

Kindergartener had a fantastic day. Loved school. Loved music class and outdoor lunch. Spent more time talking than eating and was starving when he got home (as I expected him to do). The afternoon bus was 15 minutes late, but I think they'll work out the kinks for a faster drop off. Pickup was exactly on time.

+1. I couldn’t believe the bus came exactly on time. Way to go transportation office!

K and 3rd grader had a great day. So many smiles and so much to say.

Great- 6th grader and 11th. Middle schooler’s largest class has about 20 kids. She gets her own main locker and PE locker. Very different from the older one’s experience, with packed classes/hallways and shared lockers. Both liked all teachers. School lunch got a thumbs down, though.

Great!! 5th and 3rd. Loved it. Said it was long, but no complaints about masks. They stayed virtual in the spring.

Amazing first day in person. The kids are so happy to be back full time. It was so hard for them all last year to hear how their cousins elsewhere in the country in public school and neighbors in Catholic school were in person the entire school year.

Anybody hear how the virtual program went? I know that APS has 42 virtual teaching jobs still listed online, 17 or so of which are for Special Education. APS said they'd use substitutes and third party providers.

Any word from the Arlington Special Education Advisory Committee on the VLP lacking special ed teachers?

My kids first and fourth had a blast. My first grader came in the house and exclaimed "I didn't use the ipad at all!" They both loved their day.

Upper Elementary and Middle Schools kiddos had GREAT days! They loved their teachers, had time with friends, ate lunch outside. Win win.

My two littles (K and 2nd) came home gushing with energy! They love their teachers and Im so glad to have them back in school (so much silence today!). . I’m feeling cautiously optimistic, but how did everyone else’s day go?
