You are right they don’t need me.’y dad ingrained in me that kids do not need parents. Of course his parents died separately by the time he was 6 years old.
So you’re in the camp of sleeping in while the kids head off to a new school with block scheduling for the first time. I’m not known as a helicopter parent (eg, if it rains this afternoon I will let them walk bike while all my neighbors will pick their kids up from the bus stop), but there are some things (like helping kids establish / get comfortable with a new school week routine).
