I work with them so that they don’t rely on me. They were able to take care of themselves by 2nd grade on the few occasions I had an appointments and had to leave 15-30 minutes before they headed off to school. I think what you’re doing is very nice, but agree with others it isn’t necessary. It can help deepen bonds though.

Agree. Maybe not needed but a way to connect with your kid. Even if it is a lot of quiet, just being there quietly together is great for the relationship and your child would

You are right they don’t need me.’y dad ingrained in me that kids do not need parents. Of course his parents died separately by the time he was 6 years old.
So you’re in the camp of sleeping in while the kids head off to a new school with block scheduling for the first time. I’m not known as a helicopter parent (eg, if it rains this afternoon I will let them walk bike while all my neighbors will pick their kids up from the bus stop), but there are some things (like helping kids establish / get comfortable with a new school week routine).

You are right they don’t need me.’y dad ingrained in me that kids do not need parents. Of course his parents died separately by the time he was 6 years old.

DH doesn’t think anyone but the MS kid in the house need to get up even the first day and week of school. Are most people like this?? This is abnormal to me.
