Yes, it is standard protocol to provide lunch for the nanny. In your case, providing dinner is dependent on what time the nanny leaves work. She may choose to have dinner with her own family. It’s much healthier for the kids to sit down and share a meal with parents or nanny however.

Our nanny comes after breakfast but eats what we buy for lunch. I ask her for a list of whatever she wants when I place my online order for the week.

Our nanny often brings her own food/snacks but sometimes eats with us. She’s welcome to have anything she likes…and yes, when I notice she repeatedly brings something, I’ll pick it up for her along with our own groceries.

Personally I would rather the nanny be caring for my children than trying to fix herself food so I could save a couple dollars a day.

Our nanny prefers to bring her own breakfast and lunch. We stock the kitchen with fruit, snacks and drinks that she is free to help herself to. She will also make her own coffee. We buy the kind she likes. If she’s taking the kids out and they stop for a bite we pay for her too.

Our nanny is welcome to anything in the house, but she usually brings her own food. If I notice she is bringing something on a regular basis I’ll start picking it up to keep in the house.

What is standard protocol? Does your nanny eat food from your fridge/pantry, or bring their own food? We will have a nanny starting soon for the first time and not sure what is expected. This didn’t come up in interviews or contract. She will be feeding our children lunch and dinner. Thanks for your input!
