You can check the academic calendar for your child’s college. It will list the breaks and duration.

Some professors cancel Class Monday and Tuesday some don’t.

Quaint? My kid takes the train to and from school every time except move-in and move-out. It’s perfect! Don’t get the condescension. Every school is not easy/timely to drive to/from nor in a location conducive to air travel.

Mine too. They love it. Ignore the uneducated.

I just bought my kid's train ticket home for that weekend, and the trains were 40% full already.

Yes, I know that the pandemic is a bit of a wild card...but the traffic nightmare is a guarantee! Probably worse that usual.

Thanks, PP. I booked a round trip train reservation for my DD. Amtrak has a student discount. Rates were quite reasonable. Ignored “quaint” poster.

The train is great.

As for advice for Freshmen of course book early any means of travel.

If the parents live in DMV and kid goes to school in Philly, NY, other close areas where Amtrak goes, why wouldn’t they take the train?

That was a bizarre response.

I’m a freshman parent and wish my DD is going to a school where she could take the train home

Your response is ... rude.

It's sometimes actually cheaper and all told, not much of a difference time-wise. Do you disagree?

Oh shut up. Some people actually give a crap about the environment. I have sent my kids to Boston from NYC on the train multiple times.
