What does EOTP stand for?

Yeah, I don't want to start a debate, just wanted to know if people had any intel such as "No, it's still very uncommon" or "Half the kids in K this year are overage" or whatever.

It is not commonly done, but it is not illegal.

What they aren't going to do is give you an additional year of free preschool, even if they are willing to take an overage Kindergartener.

OK. I was just curious, because my overall impression is that this is not commonly done in DC publics (and more commonly done in privates and in suburbs I suppose), but I wondered if the pandemic had maybe changed that. I'm newer to DC schools with a younger child and I don't know everybody, so wasn't sure how this is playing out.

But as for actual redshirting, I'm redshirting my son. He makes the cutoff by 6 days, but I'd rather he wait a year.

how will you be doing this?

Child, not chicks. Thanks autocorrect, I’m not in the habit of using the word “chicks.”

This isn’t red shirting. It’s repeating a grade. If your child did public K last year, it is not an easy thing to have them repeat public k this year. The school has to approve the repeat of the year and in my experience, DCPS will do pretty much anything to not hold a child back.

Redshirting is not entering your child in K the year they are eligible and instead holding them out until the following year, resulting in the chicks already being 6 or about to turn 6 when they start K instead of 5 or about to turn 5.

Kids were redshirted before the pandemic. I’m sure they will continue to be redshirted.

I don't know of anyone holding their kid back for K in DC, but I hear a lot of talk about it generally and wondering if anyone has any info. The idea is that, the kids didn't get good instruction last year because of virtual school, so they're having the kid repeat.
