Vera Bradley and Scout lunch bags are popular for middle school girls.

I can assure you, if I bought juice boxes DS and DD would be thrilled. Middle schoolers will eat and drink anything, out of anything. The lunch box does not matter. Even DD has a big appetite these days.

Dd is 12 and she has a matching backpack and Lunch bag by Nike. No juice box. Ice cold water everyday! I am happy we are are leaving the juice box years behind. Dd is happy with her lunch and she's allowed to buy pizza on Fridays.

Yes, many still use lunch boxes. Let her pick one she likes. We like purse sac styles.

I’ve taught in 5 MS in MCPS. There’s no norm.

Mine did. Insulated to hold a bento box. Sometimes they hooked a thermos on as well.

They sure do, OP. Look for a lunch bag that is insulated to keep the food cold. What middle schoolers don't do anymore is juice boxes. Middle school kids use reusable water bottles instead. Let your kid pick out which one he or she wants. My middle schooler wanted a large, insulated water bottle to keep her water very cold. It's a thing.

Yes, Everyone hates the lunch at our middle school.

The boys usually carry a Nike or Under Armour lunch box.

Mine did...a sturdy cloth zipped container. Pottery Barn teens I think. Lasted through HS. It did not seem to be an item they cared too much about replacing.

Anything goes.

My son picked out a Big Bang Theory neoprene lunchbag with sayings from the show, and since one of them was a swear, it attracted a lot of (positive!) attention from his fellow middle schoolers.

My daughter loves wolves and will probably keep her wolf themed elementary school neoprene lunchbag. It wasn't marketed for kids particularly, so doesn't look too childlike.
