Decide if you want to see him again in a few weeks. You have no idea how awful the withdrawal is. No one is doing anything else, and it’s emotionally draining. So if he turns up in a few weeks and you’re still inclined, great. If not, it was just two dates.

I'm a defense contractor who is taking a quick break to eat dinner at my desk. I've been here since 4pm and am scheduled to be here until at least 6. And I'm just an average low level analyst. Cut the guy a break.

No, “defense contractor at Bolling” most likely means he works at DIA. And he indeed might be busy.
But chances are he is just not into her. Move on, girl.
PP here - indeed it it's a cover and he is analyst, then he could be very busy. But I've never known a guy of that ilk to let that stop him from pursuing someone. My first thought was that he was using that as a convenient excuse, even if true.

My daughter’s SO is a defense contractor. If he’s heard anything, he hasn’t told us and they are supposed to be in a wedding in three weeks.

I worked in Afghanistan and still have dozens of contacts currently working on it. State, USAID, NGOs, OSD Policy. I'm moving overseas to a U.S. base that is receiving refugees. It's not impossible, but a defense contractor at Bolling sounds fishy as someone on the tip of the spear on this. Further, any guy really interested would drop a line to check in. I'd move on.

This is OP and this is what I was wondering. Neither of us has any military background, and of course it seems like a nightmare based on the news. I have no idea how much a defense contractor might be doing as opposed to actual military. I do have friends who are veterans who served in Afghanistan and they are having a hard time.

Do you people have any idea what is happening in Afghanistan? If this guy does not check in by 9/30, maybe wonder then. Right now anyone who has worked there is trying everything imaginable to get people out. Desperate people are texting from on the ground. Then there is the whole piece of people who are actually doing the logistical work to bring back tens of thousands so far. And there are so many in need. All to say, if you like him give him the space to do the right thing at work and a chance to be a decent date later.

Only two dates — decent chance he actually is busy af and exhausted when he’s not busy. Two dates is not really enough to invest your exhausted overworked self into some late-night texting, especially if he thinks a “hi” text will turn into a conversation and not just “hi.”

My friend met someone who’s a defense contractor at Bolling. They went out twice. then communication dropped off. Non plans to get together again., His last text was late last week when he said he was really busy with the Afghanistan situation. She told him to let him know when he’s free and she’s not heard anything. I think he ghosted her but she has this hope that he’s just working around the clock. Anyone know anything about this kind of work? I mean, he could still send a hello text... lol
