I have had numerous dogs in my life. The last one was about six years ago and I loved that dog so much. She got an autoimmune disorder, her liver failed and she died, went from perfectly healthy to dead in a week. I miss that dog everyday. I had other dogs I loved too.

Now, I don't want a dog. I also sometimes visit people with dogs and they really annoy me. Certain dogs, with certain annoying mannerisms and behavior. I have one relative I will not visit because of their two huge slobbery annoying dogs that they don't even take proper care of.

They probably think I'm not a dog person.

I’m not a dog person at all, even though I have 2 dogs and have actually worked as a dog walker. The dogs were really for the kids, they mostly drive me crazy.

The funny thing is I actually love all other animals. I’ve always been fascinated by wildlife, I actually majored in zoology and spent several years working with wildlife. But dogs are so UGH. I think because they’re always demanding attention, barking, and misbehaving, vs a squirrel or a bird that just goes on living it’s life.

And most of all I hate the commitment. Walks every day, can’t stay out for more than a few hours because they need to be let out, always barking at people outside which is annoying AF, my whole life seems to revolve around the dumb dogs.

I am not a dog person. I am particularly sensatitive to breeds that drool or really smell bad.

I also don't like to be jumped on or nuzzled by dogs and really don't appreciate people who selfishly allow their dogs to roam parks and neighborhoods off leash.

I'm not a dog person. I was pushed over as a kid when my dog and another dog were chasing one another, busted my chin open, had to get stitches--it was pretty traumatic for a little 5-year-old. I don't mind if dogs come up to me--I'll pet them and I even think some are cute. I don't wish harm on dogs, just don't have a love for them and have no desire to have one. And I don't want to sit next to one on a plane or in a restaurant.

Plenty of people feel this way about kids and that's cool. I don't expect that everyone wants to hang out with my kids.

I don’t like the smell or the slobber, nothing strange about that.

When I hear that, I assume they don't like slobber, being jumped on, being *needed* so. very. much.

But I don't think of them negatively.

I cannot stand them. I think many people treat their dogs better than their kids.

I’m not a dog person but I love other animals. I don’t not love dogs I just don’t want one! I could never pick up dog poop. I have kids and cats but nope, I’m not picking up dog poop. I hate dogs who bark and find them on the whole obnoxious but I absolutely find them adorable to pet.

In what context? What were you doing or talking about when they made the comment?

I will just smile and say nope! I love dogs, as a matter fact I have three And also foster dogs.

Or you could be snarky and say good thing you don’t make a living out of reading people. Just kidding, I would never say that.

I’m not a dog person and I do think people generally see that as a negative thing about me. I’m a good person—warm, loving, thoughtful, etc. Im a nurturer by nature, a teacher, love kids and babies, etc.

I don’t like dogs. At all. I don’t like going to places where dogs are, I don’t like petting them, I don’t like when they jump on me or lick me. I can’t stand them. I don’t wish them harm and don’t begrudge anyone who wishes to have a dog themselves. But I basically despise dogs…I put on a good show pretending to like my friends’, family members’, and neighbors’ dogs and I always act interested in them/smile at them or whatever. Bc it’s expected that everyone should like dogs and if you don’t you’re probably considered by many to be a cold or bad person.

The person just misread you, OP. It wasn’t a positive or negative comment - just a mistaken observation.

Our lovely nanny, an incredibly loving and giving woman to children, has said she’s not a dog person. It’s not a character flaw - it’s just who she is.

I am not a dog person. I don’t like touching fuzzy things. I have sensitive skin. I don’t like when dogs jump on me or lick me.

DH and my 3 kids have been wanting to get a dog for years. We don’t have one because I don’t want to take care of the dog and I know I will be the one stuck taking care of the dog I didn’t want.

You have 3 dogs. Hope you said you had 3 dogs.

Someone told me last week “I can tell you are not a dog person”. What??? I have three dogs; occasionally foster and am a total “dog person”. What does it mean if you are NOT a dog person? It sounds negative.
