Which are in the same physical location, so how do you avoid your kid interacting with the stupid thuggish types?

I graduated in the 90s. Went to a top undergrad and grad school. Even then, there was sort of a Yale or Jail divide, with many kids going to competitive colleges but many others more of the stoner/less academic vibe.

I think it depends on what you’re comparing it to, and what your kids are like and likely to get out of it.

It’s still a great FCPS school, but people like to compare it to McLean or Langley or even private school via test scores, and it won’t hold up as well. It’s still a good school though.

This is my understanding, too, that it's essentially two completely different populations that don't intermix much. We live in North Reston, zoned for Herndon High, and will have no concerns about sending our kids there when the time comes. Our neighbors are very happy with the school, both parents and students. We have had a few neighbors who've moved to Great Falls for Langley before their kids reached high school, but we love our neighborhood and we love living in Reston, so we won't be doing that. If your kids are decent students, they should do very well at Herndon. It seems to be a good, supportive community.

There are more than a few posts about Herndon High on this forum.

Everyone is understandably preoccupied with other things these days but if you want to know about the recent history you can search the name.

Great Schools and Schooldigger ratings/informations are of limited value but you may want to consider them anyway.

Info on school profiles can tell you about various kinds of incidents in that school relative to the other options.

Every family is different and needs to make their own decisions.

It’s completely fine for middle class families.
