Fire her and hire someone that is cold and distant and that your kids hate. That is flaky and rarely on time. That is rigid and will not bend at all.
But will always, ALWAYS, remember your 9 year old's shoes.

I don't think you understand how good you have it. Plenty of people could trade you a detail-oriented nanny who is disliked by the kids and insistent on set hours.

If she never screwed anything up she could probably have a higher paid job than nannying…

OP, our nanny had a propensity for losing the lids to baby bottles (thereby making it a challenge to pack in the diaper bag) and breaking dishes.

She also would have thrown herself in front of a bus to protect my kids and regularly surprised us by cooking dinner (which was not part of her duties).

Focus on what matters, and work with your kids on being responsible for their own stuff.

I have fired a nanny before, and nothing you list here would cause me to consider firing.

Good luck finding another nanny. They are not easy to come by lately.

The more I think about it, op must be a troll.

She is reliable, your kids love her, she is honest (under calculating is not a problem, she's not teaching math here, over calculating would be worrisome).

You are not going to find a perfect nanny. It sounds like yours is close. Everyone makes mistakes occasionally. That's a few minor mistakes over 5 months. If this stuff was happening weekly, that might be a different story. Get over it and adjust your unreasonable expectations.

I know I have but she is continuing to forget basic things and we now need to consider other options.

I don't think these rise to the level of firing. You aren't likely to find someone who is perfect. I suggest mentioning these things to her and see if she can do better, but honestly, these things really aren't a big deal.

We have 2 school age kids. 7 and 9.
Had our nanny for only 5 months.

Positives-
Kids absolutely adore her and miss her when she is not there, she is affectionate, warm and engaged.
Very reliable
Flexible in terms of working patterns
Has adapted to a lot of changes (us moving a child to a different school and arranging pick ups around that)

But the following has also happened-
1. Left my 9 year olds bag on a bus
2. Left my 7 year olds sneakers at home when she was doing a sports camp
3. Miscalculated money spent on hours worked and extra activities (All under calculated but still worrying.)
4. Friday, maybe not a big deal but took home my kids swipe cards for a swimming activity. We do not need the cards this week but still, we could well have done.

We need someone who is more 'on the ball '.
Just wanted some thoughts as to what to do here.
