Toyota is still at the top when it boils down to reliability.

It is the most trusted car brand (they go neck in neck with Honda) and are worth their weight in gold.
I agree. My Corolla is SO BORING, but it is now 16 years old and much more reliable than our 11 year old Mazda... which last has still had way fewer problems than my friends' newer, non-Japanese cars.
Both cars are cheap to maintain.
I greatly respect Japanese cars as a group. I've driven Hondas and Nissans that are good quality as well. My late FIL bought a Nissana decade ago that is now in my BIL's name and is driven by multiple grandkids as needed, and it still works like new!
