If you want your child to keep their school supplies, send them in a pencil box or portfolio/wallet that is clearly labeled with your child's name. Otherwise, the teacher will take them all out of their backpacks and pool the supplies.

I would call the school if you haven't heard about who the teacher is yet. Would be good to know before the New Student Orientation tomorrow.

Have you heard anything from the teacher yet or about how to access the power school program? Who are the immersion teachers for first grade? Just curious

So when I say pooled, I mean the teacher will collect all the supplies that were sent in by kids and store them. Then they will pass out what the kids need at that point and yes those will be kept individually for each student and not shared. (JA is a school that will possibly not have every kid sending in supplies, so this is mostly necessary). Teachers also will provide a lot of supplies as well from school funds.

Best to just ask the teacher to be sure.

We're at a different ACPS school but we were told school supplies will be kept separate this year (and during the April-June in person days each of my kids had their own supplies as well). In the past it was pooled, but COVID has changed that.

I would guess this is consistent across all the elementary schools.

In the past it was all put together, but with COVID I wonder if they will keep them separate. Might be worth emailing the teacher to ask.

Yes headphones will be individual (while they last!) Most teachers will put all the supplies into a general classroom pile, but a new teacher might do it differently.

Thank you! This is helpful! For school supplies, are you supposed to label the items or do they all just go into a pile for general classroom use? I read somewhere that the kids are supposed to bring their headphones everyday, so I am not sure if some things are individual or not?!

Hello, we are newly entering John Adams as a rising 1st grader and don’t know anyone going to the school not much about it since we don’t live in the JA zone. Anyone know of play dates or how to get in contact with other families? Tried the PTA memberhub, but doesn’t look like it is active.

Thanks - mom has the gitters!
