I’m trying to envision what playground equipment would cause him to strangle in a hood. How do you think it would happen? I get that strings and scarfs are dangerous but a hood is pretty big and a sweatshirt has a lot of give.

I had the same fear. I never bought any hoodies. I also wouldn't let them wear scarves.

OP here - I put him in hats. May add a dickie this winter since he's starting elementary school and will be spending more time outside.


A balaclava would work too. I like hoods because they keep the wind out, but a balaclava might be even better because it’s more fitted and less likely yo fall down.

Omg I have this exact fear about my kid wearing lanyards. I literally have to look away from toddlers with those amber teething necklaces or I will be the crazy lady who tells people their kid is going to be strangled by their magic woo beads.

It’s really an easy solution. Just don’t dress your child in hoodies. It’s not Anything that ever worried me but for those things that did worry me, I avoided what I could. This is so easily avoided and will make your life much more pleasant t.

I’m a skydiver and get nervous when people wear a hoodie. What if the parachute malfunctions and gets tangled in the hood or drawstring?

The signs warn parents of the lace/strings in hoodies and shirts which have them at the waist. Not hoodies in general.
OP, if you’re worried, remove the string.

Buy a bunch of beanies leave them in the car. Good to go.

One of mine did not like hoods. We did this. I bought a whole bunch of cheap ones, if they got lost who cares.

It's not crazy. I've actually seen signs at playground advising kids not to wear hoodies. Yes, you could fall off equipment, but that is mostly unavoidable, whereas wearing a hoodie is definitely avoidable.

Not crazy, but there are far more likely scenarios that your kid could get hurt at a playground- such as falling off equipment and breaking a bone or walking in front of a kid who is swinging and get kicked in the head and getting a black eye.

Both of these things happened to my kids, but we still use the playgrounds.
