+1. I think I have a similar set up in my row house but I can't quite figure out what you're describing.
Our living room is in the back of the house. At one end we have French doors flanked by windows opening to the backyard. Our couch is perpendicular to the French doors, floating about 6' off the back wall and facing a fireplace. We have two armchairs sort of flanking the fireplace but angled toward the couch. A coffee table sits in the middle.
You could do something similar but place the chairs perpendicular to the couch, facing each other. Depending on how much room you have, you can place the chairs in front of the fireplace or closer to the couch to enable conversation.

Just be glad you aren't me? My front door opens straight into my living room, as in between the couch and the TV. Drives me nuts.

This isn’t a good way to do this, make a diagram of your room on grid paper or an app and cut out furniture so you can move it around. Also consider reading “Use What You Have Decorating.”

Subject: My backdoor is in my living room
Help me place furniture. In my new townhouse the backdoor is a part of living room.
The room is a rectangle and 1) the long side is 15 feet and includes French doors flanked by almost floor to ceiling windows 2) the opposite wall has a fire place and hall leading into the house (this wall is shorter than the parallel wall) 3) the shorter wall to the front (13 feet) and back wall is 15 feet and leads to the dining room.
With the room being 15 ft deep, I want the furniture three feet off the back wall and facing the short 13 ft wall. The furniture is set like a bracket } with the fireplace wall not used for furnishing. I do want groups of furniture for conversation areas.
Please ask any questions. I sincerely want your advice. Thanks in advance!
