I recommend new grads or interns. A little more mature than students but still need the side hustle money.

I used to do this. It started when I was a Nanny. Once my kids went to school I picked up 3-4 hours during the day a couple of days a week. Then when I got into a different field I did shift work. So had 2-3 days off in the week. I used to babysit for a Mom of 3 once a week just so she could get stuff done like appts etc. we rotated the days because of my FT job but I knew the days ahead of time so she could plan. I would try and find a Nanny or even a mom who wants some extra hours during the day.

So babysitting of the type that existed when I was a kid - irregular work for extra money - doesn't exist anymore? Really? My mom used to have a few people she could call to find out who was available. But by that point we'd lived in our town for a decade and she had a lot more social connections to families with teenagers than I do now.

Bread was once 5 cents a loaf a d now it's $5/loaf. Times change. Why would anyone want to work like this. You want me then you pay me to keep these days just for you.

You cannot just call on the days you need without paying for a person to keep this day just for you.

You can try and gather some names/numbers and call as needed, but you can't expect them to keep their schedule open for you. Chances are, if they are really serious about wanting/needing to earn money, they will have a regular job lined up.

Forget the college student idea and get an older, reliable babysitter/nanny. Try care.com or sittercity.com.

Few, if any, young women will agree to be in a house alone with your husband. Rethink this idea, OP, for everyone’s sake. Your husband would be a fool for courting even the possibility of false accusations.

College students are stunningly unreliable, in my experience, and we were paying $25 an hour for one easy five-year-old. We went through three in one year and the one babysitter who was good left after a semester when her schedule changed.

My advice is to not limit your search to college students.

I was thinking a college student would probably be the easiest to hire for this type of babysitting. Is there a specific way to post a job listing for any of the local colleges? Thanks!
