Our daycare said that OSSE is no longer requiring quarantines for kids that travel domestically. Will that be applied to DCPS?

- Close contact if < 3 ft distance
- Close contact if share lunch room (b/c not all wearing masks)

But again, the quarantine due to unmasking during lunch only applies if kids are eating within 6 feet of each other. So if they have room inside to space out 6 feet or can stagger lunch in order to have 6 feet, or can eat outside, no quarantine.

CDC updated its requirements (and DCPS followed suit) to recognize that if students are masked, then they aren't exposed when one of them tests positive. This is consistent with studies last year which showed that when students attend school while masked, exposures were not happening at school, and to the extent students did test positive, it was a result of exposure at home or elsewhere outside of school.

I’m confused. CDC requires you either get a test or quarantine if you’ve had an exposure. How is sitting 3-6 ft from someone infected with covid not an exposure according to DCPS?

So, essentially no quarantines will be necessary.

Which ends up meaning no kids who are exposed will quarantine because no one will know who sat next to that kid at lunch for the past week.

So will they need assigned seating in the cafeterias to trace who was sitting where? How can they do that with hundreds of kids in the big schools?

Please correct me if I’m wrong but according to the Chancellor’s recent remarks, if a student tests positive the rest of the class and teacher will not have to quarantine as long as 3-6 ft distance was maintained and masks were worn.
