I'm not going to do it nor am I qualified but some other poster should definitely throw their hat into the ring for the job. Based on all the posts I've seen over the years there is surely someone on the forum who is more than qualified.

Kudos to the youth players who first spoke out, and I hope they feel vindicated now.

Yup, this behavior was discussed on these forums before the hire and the accusations were ignored and never investigated.

Statement From Steve Baldwin
August 11, 2021

“On the heels of our announcement yesterday that Coach Burke was resigning, a Washington Post reporter contacted the Spirit with allegations of mistreatment–verbal and emotional abuse leveled at players–by Coach Burke. We take these allegations very seriously and are undertaking an immediate investigation. Burke has been suspended pending the investigation and is prohibited from contacting players and staff and our facilities. We, as a team, will not tolerate any situation for our players and staff that is less than professional. Our athletes, and all of those who support them, deserve the absolute best.”

And yet people continue to sign their kids up with a youth soccer coach who does the same thing.

Multiple sources have told The Athletic the Spirit will announce that Burke has been suspended pending an investigation, expected today.

She's very well sourced, so I'm sure this is true.

Sigh. So sick of this crap.

I am going with alcohol issues. Often “undisclosed health issues” translate to substance abuse. I met him when he coached at FCV. He struck me as a good youth coach but disorganized administratively and a bit clueless.

Official statement says he has a health concern and will join front office once he improves. But The Atlantic is reporting there is no health concern and he was in fact fired. Sounds a little fishy. If a true health concern like cancer, the coach usually announces what it is like Ron Rivera from WFT did last year. Or they take a temporary leave of absence and return to coach after. Moved to the front office?
