First, no runny noses do not last for two weeks after a cold! See your pediatrician if that was the case with your toddler.

Second, yes. I definitely keep my kids away from other kids when they have colds. There are a million outdoor places to run around without a concentration of other little kids. I take my kids to green parks when they’re snotty. All we see is the occasional runner or dog walker.

Our nanny would never think of doing what OP’s nanny did.

I would be very upset.

A cold is contagious, and during a pandemic you want to be extra courteous not to pass on every virus your family has, because it means extra hassle for others: if they have symptoms, they need to test, and possibly not go to work or school while they wait for results.

You are an idiot, and OP is right to be upset. It's likely the nanny thought like the poster above. She needs to be educated on Pandemic Rules.

Huh? Of course her child is contagious! Cold are contagious! I would be furious with the parent or nanny if I saw a snotty kid playing in the playground among other little kids. Daycares, preschool and camp wouldn’t allow it.

Yes, OP, have a talk with your nanny. She was very wrong and inconsiderate to bring your DD to a park with other little kids.

Team OP. You are not wrong. The nanny should not have taken her to the playground around other kids. It was inconsiderate and shows very poor judgment.

It’s not about giving other kids her cold! It’s the fricking fear when those kids come down with cold symptoms that it’s covid. And the miserably uncomfortable covid test for little kids. And the parents and nanny being tested.

Any nanny who thinks this is okay truly sucks! How many times do you nannies have to be told that we are not in normal times!!

My 2yo came down with a cold on Sunday (not COVID, had her tested). I texted our nanny that she didn’t need to come on Monday just to be extra safe but she said it was ok and she can come anyway.

I told her yesterday just to keep DD at home since she was a bit low energy so they played at home all day. Today my nanny asked if she can take DD out for a walk and I said absolutely. She seems to be a little better but still has a runny nose and cough. They were gone for a couple hours and when they got back my nanny mentioned they went to the playground and had fun. I was kind of taken aback because given everything that’s going on with COVID I would not want to spread DD’s cold germs at the playground, and I am sure others weren’t thrilled to see a kid there coughing and wiping her nose who is obviously sick.

I do plan to say something to our nanny later, but would you question her judgement overall? I am sure she just wanted to get out of the house, but I count on her to not only keep my DD safe from germs (however possible) but to also be conscious of others. Am I wrong to be upset?
