Calamine lotion a few times a day.

Bug spray before, showers after outside and we're using this salve made of coconut oil, tea tree and lavender- it's been better than anything else surprisingly!!

Arnica cream after. Wipe down arms and clothes with baby wipes when coming inside. We have lots of oaks in the backyard. No way to avoid them. The mites don’t bite immediately so getting them off skin helps a ton.

We’re not playing near oaks. They’re terribly itchy bites that stay for a week. Apparently they can get caught in the breeze too. Wide open play areas and lots of bug spray.

We have tons of large oaks in our hood. It’s been disastrous. We had to get a steroid cream to keep once child from scratching and another bite is already infected. Our doc said a thorough coat of bug spray when we leave the house. But honestly, we’re hesitant to play anywhere with oaks overhead.

I use a dab of cortisone cream and it's fine. No need to go to great lengths unless your child is especially itchy.

How are you avoiding your kids getting bitten by oak mites? Are they showering and changing clothes every time they go outside? For those who have experienced the bites, what has helped?
