I live in Germany and only shop at Lidl if there is no other option. The items might be ‘authentic’ from Germany, but they aren’t the best quality.

We’re happy to get any kind of authentic German food here. Lidl’s food for German week is actually not bad at all. They even had Dampfnudeln.

In which location did you find the Dampfnudeln? I’m so excited, I’m going to surprise my kids.

They only have them during Alpine week (should be in September)

American Lidl is better than German Lidl.

Lidl had better authentic items from Germany.

They have a bakery on the premises that makes fresh baked bread that is delicious! They have more name brand products than Aldi. Be careful at both Aldi and Lidl-- they like to load their products with sugar. Definitely read the ingredients before buying anything their. When you least expect it, their products have lots of sugar.

The baked goods are better IME. They also have more dairy-free ice cream if that is important to you (it is to me) I do not like their layout though.

I like marinated chicken and frozen seafood. Store brand ice cream/gelato is good.
Bring your own shopping bags.

Of course I can - I just want to know good stuff to look for there! Is the marinated chicken in the prepared food section?

I became an Aldi convert over many years, and now like their naan, some frozen treats, etc, and like paying less for milk/creamer/etc, too.

Should I try Lidl? It's a little farther away. What do you like there? How is it different from Aldi?
