Totally great option for foot issues ... Insoles (we use Currex ones designed for soccer -- pricey but sturdy) helped my kid deal with an inflamed accessory navicular bone.

I think insoles for the Nike Air Zoom would not work for the reason you mentioned. You want your feet to be as close to the Air Zoom unit as possible and adding and insole just adds more space away from the unit.

Our cleats cost $150-$180 and the insoles are garbage. We careful remove them and trace them over the Gel Insoles and put those in. That only costs $16 and it makes a world of difference.
We’ve used the Curex insoles. We ran into an issue this year because the Nike Air Zoom in the mercurials doesn’t sit flat, so I am not sure if an insoles would work well. Curious if anyone has used inserts for mercurials.

Thanks everyone for the replies! We are definitely going to head to Road Runner to get some custom insoles after hearing how effective they are just from people on this board. Hopefully we will also find an improvement in how the cleats feel as a result.

A lot of soccer kids get foot pain at one time or another. Usually, it is associated with growth and the tendon elasticity doesn't keep up with the bone growth. Stretching them daily will help with this. Getting a 12 year old to stretch daily is the hardest part.

Do it! Spend the money. DS trains 9-12 Hours a week and his heel developed some pain. Custom insoles gave him a complete 180.

I went to a running store when my son started having Sever's and they rec'd these. The heel pain went away with these insoles and stretching. Currex RunPro. They did a 3D machine for his feet and then selected the arch size.

My son is 9 and I work with a podiatrist. He told me to first try the ones you can buy..they make insoles like superfeet for cleats. I researched and there was another brand that was a little bit more highly rated than Superfeet. My son really like Superfeet in his regular shoes even though it took him a few days to get used to them. He has a higharch and complained of footpain during the year. But not after using superfeet. I would try regular cleat inserts first, then depending on how it goes, consider custom ones.

We buy high quality leather boots mizuno. My son will tie them up tightly stand in the bath tub filled in very warm to hot water for like 20 minutes then walk around in them to break them in as well as mold them to his feet as they dry on his feet. This works great but only works with leather boots

My parents paid a pretty penny for these when I was a teen but it made a HUGE difference for my tendinitis in my feet.

My son had some made by a physical therapist when he was suffering from heel/achilles pain.. Cleats are tricky, because they don't have thick insoles to begin with and they have less overall room than a running shoe. They lasted through two full shoes sizes.

Have any of you ever done the custom insoles for your kid’s soccer cleats like you would for running shoes? Teenaged player, so he wears cleats almost as much as other shoes by the time you figure in practices, games, etc. we do have good quality cleats, too.
