Since she is new, she may be a little shy when you are around.

It may take her some time to warm up to your family.

Are you there all day? I'm quieter when the parents are around. When with just the kids, then I'm singing, chatting away and reading stories in funny voices etc.

Kids do not need to be engaged, sung to or read to all of the time. It’s good for the kids to be independent, have quiet time and figure out how to be independent and entertain themselves.

She sounds perfect. Who wants to be around someone who won't STFU?

Its ok. Promoting self regulation and not being constantly entertained by adults is great. My kids' first nanny was pretty chill and not in their face. They both play independently and don't need me to set up a game or activity for them (3 and 5).

I'm quieter until the kids start to open up. I let them lead verbally and physically, because children can control so little in their lives. It puts them in control and cuts down on tantrums.

We just hired a new nanny after our old one moved away. We did a trial week with the new nanny this week and I really like her but feel she is a little quiet and not overwhelmingly engaging. She does talk to my kids but she seems to sit back and observe a little more vs joining in to play. I wouldn’t describe our old nanny as overly loud or boisterous, but she did talk to my kids all the time, sing with them and very proactively engaged them. Maybe she just needs more time to get to know them and bond.

Just curious if anyone else has a nanny on the quieter side and if it’s an issue. Do your kids love her? Did you notice she became more engaging after a little while?
