This is what our Principal did after a disastrous year of Kindergartners eating lunch at 10:30 in the cafeteria because of overcrowding (5th graders ate lunch at 1:30).

Everyone was much happier with a more normal lunch time. Eating in classrooms isn't a bad thing at all.

Most schools do not have the staffing to have supervision in each classroom at lunch time.

Honestly this was a problem that we had during COVID when students were still eating in the classroom. There aren't necessarily half a dozen people around the school that have nothing to do for either that 30 minutes or longer if they're supporting multiple lunches.

The kitchen staff is paid for specific number of hours per day, and it's not full time. I think the manager is full time but many of the staff that work the line and in the kitchen are not. So if you want your taxes to go up again to pay for them feel free to push for your student going to the cafeteria twice during the day.

Not the PP but I took that to mean they could bring "breakfast" to school for the 10:30 block of time and have a late "lunch" when they get home at 2:30pm or whenever.

My kindergarten class had lunch at 10am two years ago. They just brought an afternoon snack.

I still remember 10:43 lunch time at my high school (in 1993). Rite of passage!

Uh...I had this back in the 90s.

Junior will live.

I had this once in high school and it was actually fine. You're getting up at the crack of dawn anyway - I was having breakfast at like 6:45am, school started at 7:20, and by 10:30, yeah, I was ready for lunch. School ended at 2pm, and I'd have a big snack then.

I struggled much more the year I had a late lunch (like 12:30?) because that was so far from breakfast.

My kid had a 10:45 lunch period in middle school. Sucked, but he got through it.

I had lunch at 10:45, 20 years ago, in a FCPS high school - this is nothing new. The next year I had it at 1pm. Wasn’t ideal either time, but that’s the way it has to be to fit everyone in the cafeteria.

Yep, had this lunch time in 1994. It sucked, though. I was starving by 3pm and then I would just get powdered donuts or a chocolate bar from the vending machine before sports practice which made me feel like garbage.
