So I kind of want an RV or travel trailer to park in driveway as a spare room. I need an office and our house is too small, so having an RV to camp in (we love camping) act as our “addition” is very attractive

It's not purely a math equation, but RVs are like boats...most people get super excited, think they will use it all the time, and then 90% don't use it enough to justify the high cost.
It makes a lot more sense if you are retired or have a job situation that allows massive amounts of free time.
I'm personally not a fan because:
--RVs depreciate rapidly
--even the pricey ones have poor build quality
--they are a pain to drive and park
--have to store them
--it's another thing that needs to be tended to, maintained, cleaned, repaired, taking up a lot of time and money
--the RVs you drive have pretty poor crash safety ratings (trailers towed behind a truck are much safer)
--life changes and priorities change...a lot of people spend big on an RV and two years later it doesn't fit their lifestyle making for an expensive mistake.
--RVs became 'hot' again during COVID so if you buy one you'll be paying inflated prices.
For all of that money, you can have a HUGE vacation fund which can even include the occasional RV rental.

We have a unique set of circumstances that make it a good fit for our family. However, no way would I want to live in it full time. It can be cost effective if you use it enough. But, it is less of a vacation and more of a trip. We’re headed to the beach in ours next week and am already washing bedding and making lists for the food.

Rent one from Cruise America or El Monte and see if you like it. There are pluses and minuses. It is not cost effective, compared to hotels and cabins, for normal vacation schedules. You have to really WANT the RV experience.

Anyone have an RV? Was it worth it? I saw this mom on IG who travels and homeschools her kids while traveling to places with her kids.
