This isn’t the gymnastics of Nadia anymore. You have to hit the difficulty scores.

Oh, and I'm 48. So does that mean all I have to do is roll around for the gold?
Anonymous wrote:The current way that gymnastics is judged actually discourages athletes from performing dance moves or linking moves that look more graceful. If you are remembering routines from 20 or 30 years ago when the code of points favored those things, I can see how you would think this. But, modern athletes construct their routines based on the current scoring system. That is what Jade Carey did.

That said, her tumbling form is not as good as Jade's and her tumbling is not as hard as Jade's. Her presentation is *much* better, her dance form is typically better -- though Jade hit her positions sufficiently in the final to get full credit (why her D score was +.1 over prelims) -- and her landings were slightly better on 2 of 4 passes (.1 differences) and slightly worse on 1 (.1 difference). All that said, she had to make up .4 in E when her tumbling form is not as clean... with only .1 in landing difference, it wasn't going to happen. I hope Jade learns to emote if she sticks with elite -- she could learn so much from Vany, Gelya and the Gadirovas' performance ability -- but tumbling is still the most important thing in FX and her tumbling was both harder and cleaner.

The Italian was flawless and graceful. Her performance was mesmerizing. And, she’s 30.
