I wish people would stop posting these threads, there's one for every school district.

God youre privileged. Distance learning was an abject failure for poor and underprivileged kids. Not everyone has access to nannies and pods or whatever

My anxiety shot up massively yesterday. I think it's a bit of PTSD from last summer, and I feel like the walls are closing in around us again.

I really hope that they do not try to default back to virtual. They've set such a bad precedent with all of the insanity and shenanigans from the past year and a half.

The very great irony to me is that we waited and waited contingent up on vaccines etc etc etc, and now look--here we are back at square one. Vaccinated individuals can be infected (albeit with less severe outcomes). Viruses mutate. Always have, always will. So, we basically are doing what we could have (should have) done last year. Incredible.

I feel differently than you OP. The last 2 days, Arlington cases have started falling. I check everyday. HS sports started yesterday with big turnouts in my kids' sports. All in all I see things getting back to normal.

This is so cynical but true. I am a teacher and said the very same thing to my husband on a walk the other night. Not only can schools and families not Dustin another year of DL/hybrid, Democrats know republicans are trying to flip seats on “Democrats are the party of school closures.” Absolutely no way they close schools in any capacity knowing that , at least not before elections and <12 vaccines will be approved shortly after that. There may be more infections this year because of deltas transmissibility but overall with vaccines and all, closures just aren’t happening.

Define “if it gets bad.” Are you talking about positive test results or hospitalizations?

APS needs to move lunch outdoors. Otherwise we might as well just give up on masks.

They should go back to virtual. With delta, you should be anxious about sending the kids to school in person.

Not a chance. We’re going back in person. I do see the possibility of having concurrent instruction again at some point if cases get really bad.

Yes, what matters is the state, not Duran and the school board alone. But state laws can be changed and i don’t think that’s outside the realm of possibility. It depends so much on what happens with the virus. I really hope kids stay in person, though, even if the virus gets as bad as ever again. We have so much more data now on the safety of kids and adults in school.

I may be paranoid and tainted from the last 1.5 years in APS. But with the rise in cases in Arlington, I'm definitely getting nervous Duran will shift to remote. Especially given the amount of funding he invested in the DL program. This could be a great way to justify his spending. I could use some reassurance here - can anyone in APS enlighten me?
