Rapinoe, Morgan, Lloyd, Heath, Press should be thanked for their past achievements and retire from international soccer. They need to start rebuilding the team around younger players like Lavelle and Macario. And, yes, they will need to fix the youth development system, because other countries are catching up, but that's easier said than done with USSF running the show.

Problem of course is that training for girls in Europe is not comparable to what is available for boys. The highest transfer fee paid for a female soccer player is €250,000. As a result, there is currently no financial incentive for clubs to train and develop girls in Europe. In fact, in many cities in Germany, France, Spain and England, there are no girls teams at the youth levels. Good young players have to play on a boys team. If you talk to US citizens who have spent a few years in Europe for work or military, they will tell you that US is much better, with many more options, for youth girls soccer. As much as many like to poo-poo US soccer development for young girls, it is still better than the alternatives in other countries.

That is obviously not true on the boys side, where the financial incentives are in place for much better identification and development of boy soccer players in many countries, with the US far behind.

Invite fresh talent to training camps each year. Do not include the same kid twice in one year. There are sooooo many kids playing soccer, don't be lazy.
Do not allow MOM recruiters to select her kid or anyone from her kids club to training camp.
Hire more recruiters to watch more games.

1. Cultivate talent at younger ages. Prioritize technical and game IQ as much as athleticism regardless of the package it comes in at 8/9/10 years old.
2. Make ODP relevant again. There needs to be a competitive ID process that is league agnostic.

There is certainly more to do but that is a start.
