Guess that is a pen but offensive player is creating the contact and knows what she is doing by getting in front of the defender. Pretty harsh, though to be fair US got some similarly borderline pens in last World Cup.

There's a measure of karma that it is Canada that knocked out the US here at the Olympics. Going back nine years, they really deserved that win in the semifinals. Very shady indirect kick for goalie holding the ball too long and then a hand ball penalty on the ensuing indirect kick. That was one of the all-time games I have ever seen.

We had this coming. The same thing will happen in the next World Cup where we have even more competition with Spain and France. The politics need to end, this roster was a joke from the beginning.

So any rules experts here care to explain the penalty? Just from the video it looked like US had the advantage in attempts to clear it but I guess that doesn’t matter I assume.

What to say about this game and tournament …

Canada wins on the lamest PK call I’ve seen, but the US were far from deserving. Despite dominating possession they rarely looked threatening. Two close headers. That’s it. No credible threat up top. Lavelle played horribly. Horan was lazy. Davidson lacking. Sauerbraun with poor distribution all game. Press with tunnel vision. Morgan with no moves and inability to head. Rapinoe and Lloyd, just too darn old. Mewis was a ghost. Only Dunn and Ertz played well the entire tourney, but Ertz is also slow now.

Other thought is that all the Euro lovers were wrong. 3 of 4 final teams were outside of Europe. Having said that Sweden does look the best, but could lose like the US if they don’t pay attention.

Back to the basics that brought you here: Should focus more on winning and less on social commentary.
