if it persists with BRAT diet, keep celiac in mind as a possibility.

I spoke with the ped this morning and he said to tighten up the diet and if there's no improvement through tomorrow, they'll do a sample on Tuesday, but if he starts getting dehydrated, lethargic, etc. to take him in. He's still eating, drinking and behaving normally!

To the PP who mentioned giardia, I had that several years ago and there are often certain tells (at least for adults) in the diarrhea and I haven't seen those in the kid. It's easily knocked out with strong antibiotics, but it is incredibly unpleasant and gross.

Thanks everyone.

I’d see the doctor. Could be a good-borne bacteria requiring antibiotics. My DD had diarrhea at the beginning of the summer, probably a virus, and pediatrician said to look for 1) improvement in symptoms (even if gradual), or 2) one week of diarrhea.

Yes, kids can get c diff. I’d be at the doctor with this.

Can kids get cdiff? I don’t know the answer to that but if it continues maybe they can test.

My kids would get long bouts of watery diarrhea that would last for around a week. It was terrible but just a random virus. The pedialite popsicles worked wel for hydration and to make them feel better,, even when they got older.

My kids got giardia last spring. Watery stools/diarrhea for a week, but no other symptoms. We confirmed with a parasite stool test. Digestive enzymes (particularly papaya enzymes) are good for parasites. Also activated charcoal can help immediately and it’s in most pharmacies/grocery stores these days.

As long as he’s eating and acting normally I wouldn’t worry too much.

Kids can get a mild rotavirus case even with the vaccine.

I'll preface this by saying both the rapid and PCR Covid test results were negative (tested Wednesday). TMI if diarrhea talk grosses you out. And I'm not at all neurotic about every little illness my kids get, but I feel bad for my little guy.

3YO DS had a bit of diarrhea beginning last Saturday. Sunday normal, recurred once on Monday evening. No temperature, eating and drinking normally, playing normally. Nothing happened on Tuesday.

Wednesday he had several incidents that were just water, so I took he and older DS to get Covid tests (all tests negative). He hates the Pedialyte taste, but is fine drinking water and eating mild foods. Still acting normally.

Thursday I think there was one incident, but soft and crumbly (sorry), not watery. Yesterday there were several watery incidents. They seem to come in waves, like 2 in a row, then nothing for several hours, then 3 more. He's had a couple watery incidents today. Still acting completely normal, although complaining about having to be wiped so frequently.

I know doctors are hesitant to give antibiotics for diarrhea and rightly so, but how long do we let this go on? Doesn't it seem like a long time to go without a solid poop? I know if I call the pediatrician, they'll just tell me to wait it out. So I guess just wondering if anyone else's kids have experienced this lately.

I can't remember my older kid shtting straight water for almost a week. Maybe for a couple of days.

FWIW, no one else in the home is having this problem. Older DS said he didn't feel great yesterday and had a slightly elevated temp, but that was his only symptom. He's fine today.

TLDNR, at what point do I start to worry? I've also been keeping him home from pre-school since Tuesday, since I WAH and have the flexibility to do so.
