A question - are what is described above effective youth soccer tactics from a results perspective? Also is it wrong to emphasize tactics and have some core tactics and formation?

Example- I coached kids to send the ball to the sideline on goalkicks, and then the defender tries to clear down the sideline. I have a big kicker as the right defender for this, so now we are on offense. Or I have a big kicker as the goalie who bypassed the defender.
This is all pointless skills wise, as teams focus on maintaining possession and pass the ball around in the back to advance the ball.

In rec at the lower grades, the other teams tended to have at least one goalie or team that would have trouble, and we scored off of their goal kicks, while on our own the ball is gone to their side real quick. I had a player nearly pass out just running back and forth trying to intercept the goalie's plays, not getting a break where they actually clear the ball.

4-3-3 does not have two CDMs. You must be thinking about 4-2-3-1.

Old club is SYC, I presume.

I see I’m not alone

How about a mix of both but I get finding the need for more tactical in order to stay competitive in games or run the risk of losing parents. The other issue is if the kid is not getting individually better then they also aren't getting what they are paying for. With 2 training sessions or 3 at most it's tough when there are so many new kids.

That was my prediction as well. It’s what I’ve heard from parents who have kids coached by the TD.

Well at least your Coach doesn’t yell “shoot the damn ball” or “horrible pass” or ask who coached them previously and scoff- to 12 yr olds.

OP here. DS previous coach never taught the game and lies all the time. Tells parents he doesn’t teach kids tactics but then has them play only one way. Never teaches in practice.

Just throwing some shade

Still confusing.
