We're transferring the title of one of our cars to a kid who has a summer job in another state and attends college in a third state, so I'm trying to make this as easy as possible for all of us.

I can get an in-person appointment at the DMV on one of the few days kid is home, and I assumed that if we submitted the forms there, they would print out a new title on the spot. But would they? The last time I handing a working car over to someone was in the early aughts, and it was some stranger who answered a classified ad. He gave me money, I signed the title at a notary, and if there were problems after that, they were his to deal with and I didn't care.

If I mess this up, they'll be my kid's problems to deal with, and I'd care. I give him a lot of opportunities to build character, so I'd rather skip that here.

TIA
