PP, you mean you each pay between $25-30? Not saying it is too much but we pay $21 each.

Currently in a nanny share, which we love. We found the going rate to be $25-30/hour total, and we landed in the middle of the range. Families split the rate 50/50 and we split time at the two houses. There are pros and cons to being the host and non-host. Two weeks of vacation, one week of sick, paid federal holidays. Two infants is great, three is unrealistic.

PP, someone must have been desperate to get a job. $30 per hr is a one child rate. Cannot imagine who would agree to double their work load for nothing.

Here is what we do currently:

2 babies, 50/50 split:

- we both bring snacks that are shared and pack our own lunches
- we pay 30 per hour ($15 per family) for 40 hours and OT (time and a half) for 2.5 hours. Our hours are 830-5, but we guarantee the OT regardless if we use it so it or not so it essentially works out to 16.75 an hour per family for 42.5 hours a week.
- We pay on the books
- We pay 10 days PTO, 5 days Sick and all federal holidays
- We pay no matter what, if we are on vacation etc, we still pay (just like you would if you were in a daycare)

Rate for share $33-$35 hourly plus all holidays paid and contribution towards Healthcare(this is about $300-$450 monthly.)Nanny must be paid guaranteed hours (even if one the the child is a no show). Sick leave (about 7-10 days), duties written in contract. Duties pertaining to both kids only (no housekeeping allow).

The going rate for shares is $28-35/hr with 2 weeks paid vacation, 5 sick days, guaranteed hours, paid holidays, and possibly a health insurance stipend

When you say $25-30 an hour is that per child or total?

50/50 split (hosting is way better in my view since you do not need to pack things up)

Guaranteed hours regardless of whether the kid shows or not the family pays the same

2 weeks VAC - we did one week nanny choice and the other families’ coordinated choice - sick and holidays

Non-host brings own food, diapers and wipes

Split cost of a good double stroller

Do a contract. It is critical for a share since it spells out on paper all the things.

Do one month notice by each family to leave the share. It is tough to find a replacement sometimes and 2 weeks is not enough time.

Car seats just for nanny’s car so she does not need to install each day.

it's always 50/50. In our case, each child had their own food but we encouraged them to share. We have come to be one big family more or less, which is inevitable with such close contact.

OP, we looked into a nannyshare and realized part way through setting up the specifics that the other family had no intention of paying taxes and doing things on the books. Which was a huge no for us because of our jobs/security clearances. Plus tax fraud is shady and the nanny isn’t protected if you aren’t paying into UI and such. So I’d advise you to make it clear to any family you plan to pair with up front that you (hopefully) intend to use a payroll service/pay taxes.

Also, keep in mind you’ll likely need a workers comp policy if you’re the host b/c many homeowners’ policies exclude household employees. I think it would be fair for both families to split the cost of this.

Make sure to figure out how families want to split food. With infants they have bottles. But before you know it they’ll be eating finger foods and snacks. Will the host family provide everything (and if so, the other family should be chipping in). Or is each family going to pack their own food items for their child?

What happens if one child is sick? Do they need to be excluded from care? How many weeks notice should be given to exit the share?

It’s these little logistics that are important to figure out up front so no one is surprised and resentful several months in.

even split, host family has higher utilities and wear/tear, non-host has schlepping

Hosting is easier IMO. Buys you an extra 20 minutes in the morning and you know your house is safe. I would honestly have paid more to be the host, but the other family was comfortable with 50/50.

If the host family has a dedicated space and allows kitchen access for the babies/infants I'd say split 40/60 in host's favor.
