I'm an introvert. I don't actively talk to people that I don't know unless I have to. It has nothing to do with being or not being friendly. If you start a conversation, I will talk to you but it's unlikely that I will start one with a stranger.

They’re probably just tired and not morning people. I’m not super shy or introverted but I can’t do the small talk thing at like 730 am either or whenever early time in the morning kids start school now.

A simple "Good morning" is sufficient. Even if they don't say it back. I'm super introverted and that's how I approach most parental groups.

They have been raised by wolves. Watch their kids also and you will notice they will be devoid of any manners or basic socializing skills.

Look for educated immigrant families and make friends with them.

Helicopters.

For real. This is a Metro bus, it is a school bus. From K-10th grade, I don’t recall a single parent ever at the bus stop. The one exception would be in extreme weather one parent might show up in van and let us all get in while we waited, but that happened maybe once per year. The rest of the time we waited there with each other, no parents, in all kinds of weather.

We're required to stand at the bus stop with K-5.

If you are not saying hello or waving either, then the problem is as much with you as it is with you. Unless you are saying that you're being friendly to them and they are flat out ignoring you.

They are rude and don't have basic manners, OP. Ignore them - treat them like they treat you.

I'm not a talkative person but if I'm the only one doing the talking, I take it as a sign that the other person doesn't want to talk. Respect that.

Smile and say hello.

Some people just don’t like small talk. Nothing is stopping you from smiling and waving if you want. I’m sure they would at least reciprocate.

This happens to me at daycare dropoff/pickup. There are a couple parents who are friendly, but a lot of them seem to know each other from way back and not be interested in making new friends or having conversations with new people.

It's a shame. Are you masked at the bus stop? I find that masks really inhibit social cues and make people unfriendlier.

We’re new at the bus stop for summer school. This is MCPS if it matters. I’m not a Chatty Cathy. Not even a wave or eye contact is pretty harsh especially when the person will then chat with other people.
