That’s extremely well thought out. Beyond the top 6 there is no chance you swim A meets, but everyone has an idea of the times they would need to move onto the ladder. Really great plan. I wish we went to that pool.

we don't post times. I noticed that it appeared the top person and their time in each stroke/age was posted- but not the ladder. Our team is about 150? kids maybe? I can figure out the ladder by paying attention to mynvsl however- it doesn't give me a few kids times but I have a pretty good sense of what time my kids need to swim in the a meet. I feel like the mynvsl is fine for getting times. The thing is there are age groups we are super deep on- so posting the top 6 kids times whatever would be fine- then there are age groups where we only have 9 or so kids in the group and so likely embarrassing.

I think this is a fair way to do it. It doesn’t draw attention to the slowest swimmers and their times, and lets the kids who are a little more competitive and trying to improve see the progress they have made and what their goal times should be if they are trying to break into A meets.

Our team publishes the top 10 on the ladder and my kids are excited if they get on the ladder. Way more than ten kids per age group obvously.

5) Have never once thought about the rationale. It has always been done. No one cares at all. Sometimes random people will mention your kid is good if they are at the top. Only discussion I have heard. Maybe once a summer my kids ask to see it - and they are at the top. So not a big deal and don't know why people are making it into one to publish it.

I've posted about this before. I HATE that our team doesn't publish a ladder. And I have both - a top of the ladder kid and a bottom of the ladder kid. Our team does post B meet times (not online but a paper posting at the pool.) So if I wanted, I could manually create my own ladder for my kids' age groups.

5. Rationale behind the choice to post or not? Don’t know. The coaches guard it jealously. Only a few team officials/volunteers ever see it, on a need to know basis.

Yes, ours updates the ladder after every A and B meet. Top ten scores for each category. The slower kids only have their times posted after time trials.

Ours doesn’t but it’s almost the end of the summer. Ask the coach how close he is and the difference bw him and a kid who makes it and then pay for some extra lessons…if it’s that big of a deal to you.
