I always find these conversations funny - are Elizabeth Hurley, Naomi Campbell, AOC, Krysten Sinema to be pitied because they never married?

What if you only had a 3-year starter marriage like Padma Lakshmi?

What if you got married late and never had kids like Kamala Harris?

What if you've been divorced or 'single' for over a decade like Katie Couric?

What if you married a douchebag like Meghan Edmonds King or Kate Gosselin + forced to raise 3-10 kids on your own?

Wake up.

I personally don't think it is okay, though some of those are worse than others. I do think some of these posters think they are being "kind", in that they may not actually believe there's anything wrong with woman in her late 30s who is single, but they feel like they need to explain that these biases exist. I think most of them don't understand that they are perpetuating some very dumb ideas about women and aging because they've fully internalized those ideas themselves.

I also think a lot of people just really lack imagination and simply cannot envision a life outside of the marriage-home-kids paradigm. I've met so many people who talk about how they feel sorry for people who don't have kids or who are single past a certain age. On the one hand, it's nice that they appreciate what they have. On the other hand, I know so many people who are single or childless by choice, or who clearly have amazing lives without those things, and it's sooooo condescending to me to assume that everyone wants exactly what you have.

Honestly I wonder why extremely wealthy people marry in the first place. If J.K. Rowling divorced her husband she'd be out a castle and $25 billion just like Bezos + Gates with their respective divorces.

Meanwhile Oprah has a long-time beau (note she's not single but she's never been married) and she will not have to give him a dime if they broke up. I'm sure she'd be generous and throw a $10 million or so his way, but in comparison to billions...

They do , but not to the same degree as women. It's also not the truth. Being single does not mean something is wrong with you. Really think about that for a moment, Is that a lesson you want to teach your kids?

No, they don't. Maybe if he's unmarried forever but I don't see any discriminatory/derogatory remarks towards Chris Evans, Corey Booker, Anderson Cooper, Henry Cavil, all of which chose to shack up with perennial lovers.

Also single and never married are two different things.
