I’m immunocompromised, and have had 3 doses of the vaccine. If the kids are sick, I wear a mask at work, and they wear one when not alone in their rooms.

I would not take a job that required me to mask all day with a 6 year old.

Before I received my inoculations, I had to wear a mask for nine hrs. a day and it was really rough.

I couldn’t do it for an entire day again.

I’m really sorry for your losses. However, a vaccinated nanny is no more a risk to your child than you are (and I’m assuming you aren’t wearing a mask).

How is that safer? Even a live-in nanny is going to have time off during which she can spend her time however she pleases.

Because a live-in nanny can be paid extra to be working 24/7, and if she is? You can absolutely set parameters for what contact is allowed.

Hi OP, I'm sorry about the loss of your family members.

I'm a nanny who up until June, was wearing a mask in my employers' home since last April. I and the parents are fully vaccinated and they invited me to stop wearing a mask a couple months ago but I was still very wary in general, both for myself and them. Who knows, might have to go back to it depending on how Delta goes unfortunately, but my point is that I DO think you can find nanny candidates who are fully vaccinated and willing to mask indoors. Be clear about your expectations. Good luck.

The risk to a 6 year old is less than the flu.
I would not have either the child or a vaccinated nanny wear a mask.

Is your child starting first grade in the fall, OP?

I would never agree to that. I would agree no eating inside and only being inside with a mask on. I would not wear a mask with one child when I am vaccinated.

+1 Your unvaccinated 6 yo who presumably is in a classroom setting is a bigger risk to your vaccinated nanny from a transmission perspective.

I have a part time sitter for my 9yo. She works twice a week for 3 hours. I do not make either one of them wear a mask, she is also vaccinated. If you are as nervous as you seem to be I think you should skip the Nanny and try and manage yourself.

I’m sorry for what you have experienced this last year and understand your concerns. My child almost 6 (so very mask compliant) and her class at daycare was closed the first two weeks of July due to a vaccinated teacher testing positive. They all wear masks both indoors and on the playground. I know there could be massless time (like eating) but you would experience the same thing (unless no food/ water is ever served). I say this as kindly as possible but your nanny could get sick. The good news for us is no child got sick (9 kids). However, it is a risk. If you’re not ready for that risk, you’re not ready for a nanny. No mask wearing will ever be perfect or 100% preventative.

Hi - I have not hired a nanny in a while but I'm thinking about getting someone to watch my six year old part-time for a few weeks this summer. I am a fully vaccinated single mom, but obviously DS is not vaccinated yet. I'm interviewing a fully vaccinated nanny and the condition is that they will both wear masks at all times. I also got an air purifier with an HEPA filter for the play area. With the summer being so hot, I recognize that they will probably be spending most of the time indoors. I have had several family members passed away due to COVID, so I feel traumatized at this point. Wondering what are people's thoughts regarding risk of transmission for unvaccinated child in this scenario (vaccinated nanny). I hear about breakthrough cases among fully vaccinated people, but I am not sure how often they are occurring or whether they are contributing to spread among unvaccinated folks. I am aware that the risk of serious illness or death for children is low, but, I would still prefer for my child not to get COVID, especially after what my family has gone through.
