This is such a orthorexic type-A parent thing to get worked up about. You sound like my friend who served zucchini bread with no sugar for her child's first birthday.

Nah. See below.

Every ped I know says it’s fine to start a bit early. There is nothing magic about a year.

+1. Our ped cow's milk was fine at 11 months, especially for a kid who is big and thriving. No biggie.

This is why you shouldn’t outsource parenting

Besides it being earlier than the recommendation, what if this mom didn't WANT to give cow's milk? I know plenty of people who don't. They supplement with cheese, yogurt, and other dairy products.

Either way, they should NOT have done that. I'd be annoyed too. What if your kid suddenly started having GI issues and you had NO idea why. Oh, guess what, daycare started her on milk a week ago. How is mom supposed to be involved in her care if she doesn't know what her kid is consuming?

How long has your child gone to that daycare.

i would be upset the change wasn't communicated to me especially before the recommended time!

How much milk? That’s the worry - that it will replace formula/breastmilk, which has more calories and nutrients.

Also from a mom of three, OP: It doesn’t matter if you are overreacting. You get to react how you want. If you don’t want this, then you know all you need to. Be polite of course but it doesn’t matter if others would let it go if it makes you uncomfortable.

Isn't it on their menu and you review the menu weekly?

I think it's pretty well known that pediatricians generally recommend against starting cow's milk before 12 months. Our daycare never gives it to children before they turn 1 unless a parent specifically requests.

On the other hand, if you sent your child to daycare without any pumped milk AND without any formula, I can see why they might infer that you wanted them to give him cow's milk.

Overreacting! Is it a cup of milk with a meal? Are these “3 meals a day” at daycare real food or baby food? I would be pleased they are providing a drink for your DC, especially something healthy like milk.

They probably assumed she was drinking it already.

What do you normally send in - a sipoy of formula, breast milk, or neither?

Be glad your kid is accepting of it. There are tons of stories on how stubbornkids can be switching over to milk.

How's it going? If it's going fine, why be upset? If she's allergic or something, then just talk to them.

If they provide the food, then it's pretty normal to just give your kid whatever they are serving. If you have preferences, you have to let them know in advance. They really can't read your mind to know if you care if they are the first to give them green beans, milk, chocolate pudding or whatever.

I just found out that our daycare started giving our 11-month-old child milk without asking us if it was okay first. I suspect it's because she is very big for her age and eating three "meals" a day at daycare but I was pretty shocked they'd offer her something like that before consulting us. Am I overreacting? (First-time mom so very well may be )
