Ours didn't really need money before they were old enough to get jobs, which they did at 15. They managed the birthday money from grandmas' cards, and if something came up that required spending money, we'd discuss it on a case by case basis.

My soon to be 12 year old gets $1 for every chore he does. We settle up at the end of the week. Things like emptying dishwasher, taking out trash, doing laundry, etc are in rotation. I think we’ll have to up what we pay over the next few years but right now it’s about instilling good habits and being responsible enough to track and request payment.

Why no allowance?

We do $50/mo for my 13 year old DD.

$10/week for 9 year old who does some chores, $20 for 13 year old who does more chores.

Going by age like above poster: 13 yo gets $13 contingent upon completing a few chores like trash, mowing lawn, and a couple other things as needed. It’s his job to remind me to pay him or ask for an IOU otherwise too bad. I can’t always remember to pay.

My teen doesn't get an allowance. He has a job.

$10 a week. They can work if they want to earn more than that.

The 14 yo gets $5/week but there are always opportunities to earn extra $, and we’re pretty good about covering treats, trips out with friends, etc. within reason. The 17 yo gets nothing; the kid works about 40 hours/week right now and doesn’t need it.

Our 13 and 15 YO get $15/week.

Allowance is tiny for our teens (a couple of bucks a month). They get cash from relatives for birthdays and holidays, and I'm always happy to fund outings with friends, and I do buy their clothes, etc. Recently they've started to buy more treats or even clothes with their own money. I think they like the feeling of having their own money to allocate as they like, but honestly they don't need much to do so.

We give their age in weekly allowance, anything over that they need to earn on their own. I have done that until the kid turns 18, then they are on their own.

I give zero allowance, although she has our credit card and it's okay for her to spend reasonable amounts if she is meeting friends for pizza or Starbucks or ice cream. Last year she babysat a bunch and saved up a bunch of money so I think she's been spending that on other things. She also has birthday money and such that she spends on the nonsense she wants from amazon or ulta.

Otherwise, I always have chores around the house that she can do for money -- washing the car, weeding, etc.
We don't pay for the basics like unloading the dishwasher, cleaning your room, walking the dog that they wanted.
We used to pay extra for vacuuming, but when we let the cleaners go, we decided it was just part of the regular course of what we do to maintain the family household.
