We usually get four years or so on a fob battery.

That should not be happening so quickly on a new vehicle.

The manual will tell you how to open the fob to replace the battery.

I have a Prius, so this may not work for you:

There's a little button on the side of the fob that you press to release the emergency key for the door (in case the battery dies and you need to get in). You can hold the fob up to the Start button to turn the car on if the battery is too weak to work from afar.

You can also take the emergency key and stick it in the narrow little hole on the fob and twist to pop the fob open. There's a round battery inside with numbers on it. You can go to CVS or Target and buy the same battery.

And hopefully you have a second set of keys in case you lose your first set. If you can't find a locksmith to come out to your vehicle, Toyota will charge you $600 and you have to tow your car to their dealership. Mega Scam!

You can likely replace the battery yourself. You can likely get the battery at the supermarket, cvs, home depot...

If you can't figure out how to open the key just google it.

I've never had a new car before. Bought a car in January. Getting a note on my dashboard that the key fob battery is low. Do I take the key fob to the dealer? Is that the sort of thing that's included (and does this happen every six months? that seems...annoying). I've only drive cars with normal keys.
