The increases are not for actual policing activities. That money will end up in the hands of hundreds of political cronies who are scrambling to scribble out the forms necessary to set up more 501(c)3s for “violence interruptor” organizations.

An increase doesn't mean adequate. You need to look at what effect you want and match the numbers to it. BTW, we have the lowest number of officers in years.

Long term, those are the things most likely to make everyone safer. A 10pm curfew won’t do anything.
If anything, from the pandemic I learned that it was naive to think draconian measures like mandatory lockdowns would NEVER fly here in the “land of the free.” Oh how wrong I was. Never say never.
I would also argue that most are more concerned with short term solutions. The idea of addressing root causes for sustainable, long term solutions sounds logical and makes perfect sense in theory but has yet to be proven feasible or practical.

There is no chance.
Trinidad had a curfew and restricted access back in the 00s when it was an open air drug market and it was struck down as unconstitutional. You can’t institute that kind of restriction on freedom to move on a permanent or rolling basis. It can only be done in response to an immediate threat (like the curfew implemented on Jan. 6).

I agree. If I were a PO the last thing I'd want is to be on someone's cell phone 'enforcing curfew'. We give our police a LOT of mixed message.
Yup. And unfortunately the police reform driven by activists (who have good intentions but who don't understand the impacts of crime) is creating a situation that hurts people of color even more.
The fix is MUCH larger than police. But people want to throw their support behind a meme, not a real solution.

I was a youngster when we had curfews in the summer back in the 90s. I can’t remember if they ran al year long at one point. But what are the chances things go back to this?
