If the dad is living out of the school district it's hard to see how they'd get to the school to GET the free lunch for the kid. They could save the gas money and buy food.

She's sticking with the fact that It's his problem to figure out. That's what I thought too. They don't work well together, at all.
I can't imagine being so bitter that I would let my child go hungry, rather than help out by shortening the visit or contributing to groceries.
