I get them to the point where all they have to do is decorate with furniture and accessories. My boss asked me to make one for her granddaughter. Sometimes I sell them on Ebay, depending on the size they go for $1500-5000 ready to furnish.
Along these lines, some people make shadow boxes of a room in a house or other things. It's not a big of a project as a dollhouse - or as expensive.
I do macrame, but there isn't a lot of things to do with it. Some plant hangers. Some wall hangings. I like it, but it's just an occasional activity for me.
Scrapbooking might be fun for you. It's not that expensive, especially for start up. Sewing is another option - you can get a decent starter machine for less than $100 at Walmart of Joanne. Cake decorating, but its kind of the same as macrame. How many cakes can one family eat.
My passion is glass. Start up is pretty pricy -- probably a few hundred dollars. You could take a class at one of the local studios to see if you like it first or just watch a bunch of youtube videos.
