Do you even have glass coverage? Our insurance doesn’t cover glass (USAA in MD). It was covered when we lived in NY though.

Glass deductible is usually much lower than the normal deductible. Mine is $50 but I do agree with the person that said that it will provide inferior glass. My OEM glass has a tint line at the top and is very nice. The one time I had glass replaced by insurance, they gave me absolute basic awful glass. Not only was the glass super basic but I noticed that rocks cracked and chipped it much easier than the old OEM glass.

AAA also has a service which will come to your home or work. I did it about 10 years ago and it was about $250. I'm sure it's more now, I paid out of pocket, no insurance claim.

I had my windshield replaced through insurance twice in 4 years due to rock damage. I had no deductible due and my rate didn't go up. But the first people who replaced it didn't do it correctly and there was leaking, so they had to pay me $6k for damage to the interior.

With our policy we don't pay anything for windshield repair/replace. We have done it a couple times thru out the years and no increase in premiums.

Windshields fall under comprehensive not collision. It will also only pay for inferior glass, not OEM. It won’t increase your rate, and deductible is usually $100.

If you have a newer car with electronics in the windshield
it will be more than $500. Our recent replacement cost almost $1000 for our 2019 vehicle.

Deductibles are usually about $500. Don’t call your insurance.

No, it’s not considered an at fault claim which will increase your rate.

I wouldn't file an insurance claim unless I absolutely had to.

What’s your deductible?

Windshield cracked. It spans the entire passenger side, so filling it with a resin does not seem like an option. I have not gotten an estimate from SafeLite or whatever other windshield repair outfits are out there. Seems like the cost will be about $500. I have not looked to find out what our comprehensive insurance covers. I'm afraid to call and then trigger some increase in our car insurance or deductible -- but then again maybe this kind of thing is no big deal. If I can save a few hundred bucks with insurance, will it really trigger increases. No accidents in years (a drunk driver hit me and damaged a bumper 12 years ago, and that's the last claim we had. I suspect that this was triggered a few weeks ago when someone rear ended my husband. It was probably too small for him to notice, but now we've got a huge crack.
