This. I actually wonder if my dog is sad to see me when I pick him up. But I trust the daycare/boarding place. It's a farm. He goes a couple of days a week to play. They have cageless boarding. He knows the people. And the dogs. It's wonderful.

If I didn't trust the situation I was leaving him in, then yes, I'd be a wreck and probably plan vacations that could include him.

No way! I don’t even think about them. But I know I’m strange for American standards, who usually think and treat pets like humans.

I grew up in a small town with only farm vet, and roaming cats/dogs. I would bring those home and care for them, but they usually didn’t last more than 3, 4 years. The only medical care they got was rabies vaccine and once, I had a dog that we had to give him water injections under his skin to keep him hydrate. Eventually my father had him put down…

I provide my pets with basic health care, but I would never, for instance, spend more than $600.0O on a test. Or treat pet cancer and the like…

That's part of it: I hate to have her board at the vet's for a full week b/c I think she would rather be at home, but then I pay someone to stay here and you would think that would be better, but it's stresses me! Trying to find a balance is hard.

Not unless it's an emergency departure, and then it's massive stress trying to find care at the last minute. Which happened recently. I didn't eat for 3 days.

i di dwhen i had random friends watching my pet. once i started boarding at my vet office, who i trusted very much, my anxiety left. Maybe see if you can find a care situation you are more comfortable with?

So thrilled to be able to get away, but as always, I get pre-trip anxiety over leaving my pup. She's been with us 24/7 the last year (except for a short week last year) and I just hate leaving her.
